lecture 3: Challenges in teaching clinical communication skills training in Denmark and beyond

Challenges in teaching clinical communication skills training in Denmark and beyond

How are clinical communication skills taught in Denmark and other countries — and what lessons can be applied in Ukraine?

This event explores international approaches to teaching communication in medicine, along with the challenges and opportunities they present, and how these approaches can be adapted to the Ukrainian context. The Danish experience — as an example of systematically integrating communication and empathy into medical education — offers valuable reference points for Ukrainian educators responding to the growing need for effective patient interaction.

We also discuss the barriers to teaching clinical communication across different countries — from Denmark to Ukraine — and ways to address resistance to introducing new approaches in medical education. In addition, we examine the gap between education and real-world practice, the adaptation of international practices to the Ukrainian system, and the speaker’s personal experience, challenges, and professional insights.
