Dear friends, you know that on October 11, we were supposed to hold a lecture by Rachel Clark, “Basics of palliative care, or what matters when life comes to an end,” which was to be opened by Henry Marsh. But we were forced to cancel the event because of the Russian terrorist shelling of the entire territory of Ukraine that morning.

However, do you think we leave you without gifts? We still managed to record a wonderful conversation in Lviv — a new English-language episode of the podcast “Tangible med education” with British guests: Henry Marsh, a famous neurosurgeon and writer, and Rachel Clarke, a British palliative care doctor and writer.

Listen to the second episode of the podcast on a platform convenient for you here —> https://li.sten.to/fkftdhxf

The podcast is hosted by its permanent host, Mychailo Wynnyckyj, sociologist, trainer, and lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The topic of the second episode is conversations about life, death, and medicine.

In this episode, you will hear many valuable and exciting stories about:

  • life and death
  • the experience of doctors in the role of patients
  • neurosurgery and palliative medicine
  • how doctors experience professional mistakes and losses
  • humanity and empathy in medicine; you will learn where a doctor can learn to be humane and how to treat not human organs but a person
  • and a little about religion and the god complex in the operating room

By the way, we remind you that our guests have wonderful books that we highly recommend you read, so we share the links:

  • “Stories of Life, Death, and Brain Surgery,” Henry Marsh —> https://bit.ly/3SNAlJR. In the book, you will find fascinating stories where the main thing is the ethics of the relationship between doctor and patient.
  • In the book “Dear Life,” Rachel Clark —> https://bit.ly/3MLo1Ik will introduce you to the place of her work and show it not from the depressing side.

At the end of the English-language episodes, we have no additional columns. Listen and share your impressions with us! Your feedback is very important to us.
