You know that we are actively engaged in developing managerial practices and skills because, most often, such knowledge is lacking in medical universities in Ukraine. Therefore, we are pleased with the statistics of attendance of our online courses because doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals continue to look for opportunities to develop themselves as managers.
We have found an interesting article for you, “A pilot study on the self-perceived need for management training among medical students in Latvia” —> https://bit.ly/3RCG6JF. The authors conducted an online survey among the students of two medical universities in Latvia (101 respondents). They found that management skills are essential for medical students, and they are ready to study further to become successful professionals.
Among the most important knowledge and skills, students named “effective communication in the team,” “effective communication with patients,” as well as “safety and quality management.” And “management of legislative issues,” “hospital functioning,” and “health economics” received the lowest scores. Also, students would like to study “health economics,” “effective communication in the team,” and “effective communication with patients” in the first years of study. And “hospital functioning,” “the role of the doctor in the management of health resources,” and “general management” are seen as postgraduate or on-the-job training.
Interestingly, do medical students reading us have a different ranking of management topics they would like to study? Please, share with us!
We are pleased with the “findings” in the study and are once again convinced that in order to master management skills, training should begin as early as possible. And we remind you that medical students may not perceive the traditional didactic approach to learning well, so applying an integrated educational approach in this process is important.
