Why diagnose medical education?

Let’s not be verbose — turn on the new episode of the podcast “Tangible med education” with Ivan Chernenko, a graduate of the Odesa National Medical University, an anesthesiologist of the district hospital, and the author of the book “Laughter at the end of the tunnel. Notes of a Ukrainian anesthesiologist” —> https://li.sten.to/1axw1no8

In the fourth episode Mychailo Wynnyckyj, sociologist, trainer, and lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, discusses with the guest:

  • What should be the social contract between doctors and patients?
  • What is the difference between a hero doctor and a professional doctor?
  • Where does the stigmatization of the right to medical errors come from, and what does Ukrainian legislation have to do with it?
  • Whether Ukrainian medical universities continue to teach how to treat human organs or approach human health holistically, as a holistic system?
  • What is the phenomenon of medical dynasties?
  • How do literature, philosophy, and logic help medical professionals expand their world-view, and why doctors’ knowledge should go beyond their professional activities?
  • Finally, in this episode, you will find out whether Ivan Chernenko has a car and whether he has been abroad!

We highly recommend reading Ivan’s book to everyone who interacts with medicine. Why? The author himself briefly explains: “The idea of my book is to create a dialogue between the doctor and the reader-patient, as well as between the doctor and the doctor. I tried to show the reality of hospitals as objectively as possible, so I revealed both the good and bad sides. If we do not talk about medical errors or bribery and close our eyes to it, it does not mean it does not exist. In the book, I call everything by its proper name and emphasize that mistakes must be dealt with.”

At the end of the episode, you will hear the column of Matviy Khrenov, co-founder of the Ukrainian Healthcare Center (UHC), “What have you read there?!” or “Why do I need those books? I read the decrees!” This time, Matviy advises paying attention to the book “Reflections on the Twentieth Century” by Tony Judt and Timothy Snyder. The book is structured as a conversation between two intellectuals who talk about the history of modern political ideas in Europe and the United States and reflect on power and justice. This book is also an interesting biography of historian and essayist Tony Judt, so be sure to read it and share your impressions.
