“Teaching Excellence for Medical Educators”: Launch of the Second Course

Поділитися

The Ukrainian-Swiss project «Medical Education Development» presents the second course on the Skovoroda platform as part of a large-scale educational program for educators in higher medical education institutions — «Educational Design in Action: How to Create Effective Training Courses».

Teaching in the medical field requires far more than just clinical experience and deep subject knowledge. The ability to organize the learning process so that it truly works for students is a separate professional skill that can and should be learned. The new practical course is designed specifically to help practicing educators master the principles of modern educational design.

What will the course teach?

The program is intended for medical HEI educators (doctors and nurses) who do not have specialized pedagogical training. During the studies, participants will be able to:

  • understand how their course relates to the overall curriculum and where the boundaries of their academic freedom lie;

  • design a training course using the principles of backward design;

  • master the principles of adult learning and basic theories to create a practical, understandable, and motivating environment;

  • build a transparent assessment system for knowledge and skills;

  • create or update their own syllabus, turning it into a genuinely working document for both the teacher and the students.

The course consists of five modules that can be completed at any convenient time and in any order. Each module includes educational videos, quizzes, practical tasks, and reflection prompts. A certificate is provided upon successful completion.

Leading Ukrainian and international experts in education, strategizing, and adult learning contributed to the creation and teaching of the course: Wim Groot, Inna Chukhno, Mychailo Wynnycky, Natalia Trambovetska, Nataliia Starynska, Joachim Pelikan, and Christoph Pimmer.

All courses in the program were developed by the team of the Swiss-Ukrainian project «Medical Education Development» under the leadership of Medical Education Coordinator Olena Ihnashchuk, co-authored by Olha Bershadska — educational consultant, trainer of trainers and facilitators, and designer of comprehensive educational programs.
