Today, an exciting episode of the podcast “Tangible med education” is waiting for you. Our regular host Mychailo Wynnyckyj, sociologist, trainer, and lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, talks with Ihor Zastavnyy, family doctor, co-owner of the family clinic “Vulyk” (Vynnyky), member of the Board of the Academy of Family Medicine of Ukraine, an expert in medical management at the Lviv Business School of Ukrainian Catholic University.
Our guest has expertise and experience as a family doctor, entrepreneur, and educator. In the episode, we hear how Ihor considers doctor-patient supervisory cooperation and human values through the lenses of a professional, experienced and humane family doctor and reflects on the following:
- the three pillars of evidence-based medicine: scientific sources, doctors’ or nurses’ experience, and patients’ values,
- how much do family doctors know about their patients,
- what is the supervisory relationship between doctor and patient,
- why it is essential to teach medical students not only hard but also soft skills,
- what should be brought from rural medicine to the city,
- why family medicine is more philosophical than other medical specialties,
- why it all starts with quality education.
At the end of the episode, you will find the section “What have you read there?!” or “Why do I need those books? I read the orders!” from Matviy Khrenov, co-founder of the Ukrainian Healthcare Center (UHC). Now Matviy draws attention to the “Best Book of the Decade” of the BBC Book of the Year Award – “Voroshilovgrad” by Serhiy Zhadan —> https://bit.ly/3ikBhZ7.
