Russia’s war against Ukraine, among other global challenges, also has negative consequences for the educational process. In particular, in medical universities. We are sincerely glad that in these conditions, we had the opportunity to record a new episode of the podcast with Ms. Inna Chuhno, deputy director of the educational and research institute of education quality of Kharkiv National Medical University and assistant to the rector of the university.

The permanent host, Mychailo Wynnyckyj, sociologist, trainer, and lecturer at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy talked with the guest about the quality of higher medical education. Of course, this topic was not limited and touched upon a broader range of issues:

  • Life and challenges of KhNMU in the conditions of the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine
  • Whether the education of international students in medical universities is just a business
  • The motivation of foreigners to study in Ukrainian medical universities
  • Student-centered learning and democratization of education: students’ motivation to be applicants, not consumers
  • How to find professional, motivated teachers and improve the quality of teaching in higher education institutions?
  • What is the focus of the Center for three-dimensional technologies of KhNMU?
  • What is the value of simulation approaches in medical education, and what is the experience of the KhNMU Simulation Center?
  • Whether a decrease in university funding automatically leads to a reduction in education quality?
  • Challenges of staffing higher education during the war
  • Grassroots initiatives: how do students and teachers of KhNMU help the residents of Kharkiv?

At the end of the episode, you will find the section “MZS,” aka evidence-based medicine, hosted by Dmytro Huliayev, head of publishing, research, and education projects, at the NGO “Ukrainian Anti-Stroke Association.” This time, Dmytro has prepared a story about the driving force of nursing of Florence Nightingale and her role in creating evidence-based medicine.

The podcast “Tangible med education” was created by the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Medical Education Development” team in cooperation with The Ukrainians podcast studio.
