Dear friends, we are happy to announce the launch of the online event series “The Person, Not the Disease: An Empathy Lab in Medical Education” — a cycle of discussions, trainings, and workshops dedicated to humanity and empathy in healthcare.

Over the course of several months, we will talk about integrating empathy into the professional education of healthcare providers, analyze practical cases, engage Ukrainian and international experts, and create space for discussions aimed at improving communication between medical professionals and patients.

Upcoming events:

  • 14 March — “Empathy and Humanity in Nursing: New Approaches”
  • 21 March — “Empathy and Humanity in Higher Medical Education: Administrative Opportunities and Challenges”

The first event in the series will take place on 14 March at 17:00 (online) and will focus on the importance of empathy in nursing. Nurses, physicians, medical educators, and everyone interested in developing humanity and empathy in the medical field are invited to participate. Together, we will discuss the role of empathy in nursing, its importance in rehabilitation and working with military trauma, and the key skills needed for effective communication with patients.

The detailed program for the first meeting is available on the event page on Facebook.

The second event will take place on 21 March at 12:00 (online). During this session, we will discuss how to integrate empathy training into medical universities, why humanity and empathy should be part of mandatory curricula, the best stage of study to introduce these topics, and what specific aspects need to be considered during implementation.

You can find the detailed program for the second meeting on the event page on Facebook.

Everyone interested is welcome to participate, but prior registration is required. Registration links can be found in the descriptions of each event on Facebook.

The full-text version of the guidebook can be found here.

And this is just the beginning! The series will feature both open and closed online events, as well as talks by international speakers. Stay tuned for updates and join a community that’s changing healthcare through humanity!
