{"id":7286,"date":"2026-02-26T17:58:53","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T14:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mededu.org.ua\/?page_id=7286"},"modified":"2026-03-02T17:02:27","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T14:02:27","slug":"empathy-lab-at-mededucation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mededu.org.ua\/en\/empathy-lab-at-mededucation\/","title":{"rendered":"Empathy Lab at Medical Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>The Person, not disease: the empathy lab in healthcare<\/strong> is a series of events and workshops dedicated to best practices in teaching empathy and communication in healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>The series originated from the first Ukrainian manual, Humanity and Empathy in Healthcare: A Manual for Teachers and Others, created based on the experience of doctors and medical educators, real patient stories, and clinical cases.<\/p>\n<p>The initiator and producer of both the manual and the series of events was <strong>Anastasia Leukhina<\/strong>, author of Not a Scary Book at All: About Life, Death, and Everything in Between, who has been shaping a culture of empathy in Ukrainian medicine for many years.<\/p>\n<p>Her work with stories and cases, as well as her facilitation of difficult conversations about doctor-patient relationships, formed the basis of this project and created a demand for lively discussions and practical debates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The events in the series have become a place where doctors, teachers, and facilitators share both international experience in teaching communication in medical schools and clinics, as well as Ukrainian practices that are changing the culture of interaction with patients right now. The experience and stories of the laboratory&#8217;s guests became a source of inspiration and ideas \u2014 how to create change in educational programs and classrooms right now \u2014 with the resources that are lacking, in fatigue, grief, without electricity, but with a charge of love for people and the medical profession.<\/p>\n<p>Each laboratory event focuses on a separate dimension of teaching medical communication and adding empathy to the work of a medical professional \u2014 from nursing and doctor-patient communication, from curriculum development to its redesign, from interprofessional interaction to the implementation of a problem-oriented approach to learning.<\/p>\n<p>The participation of international speakers from Denmark, Belgium, Israel, Australia, Sweden, Ireland, Germany, and Hungary was made possible thanks to cooperation with EACH (the European Association for Communication in Healthcare) and its tEACH working group on education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Person, not disease: the empathy lab in healthcare is a series of events and workshops dedicated to best practices in teaching empathy and communication in healthcare.
