On 17 April, the representatives of the university, medical community and international organisations gathered at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy to learn more about the new Medical School \u2014 a joint project between\u00a0NaUKMA\u00a0and the\u00a0Dobrobut\u00a0Medical Network.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The idea of a partnership between the university and the Medical Network arose from both sides simultaneously. For\u00a0NaUKMA, this is the realisation of a long-held vision: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the Western tradition, all good classical universities have their own medical schools.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0been working towards this for quite some time,\u201d noted Serhiy Kvit, President of\u00a0NaUKMA. For the\u00a0Dobrobut\u00a0Medical Network, it is the conclusion drawn from 25 years of practical experience: \u201cWe realised that change needs to start right from the beginning, with the training of doctors,\u201d explained Serhiy Orel, the Network\u2019s CEO.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Medical School is being\u00a0established\u00a0in response to a systemic challenge: the need for a new generation of doctors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are convinced that Ukraine needs a different kind of doctor \u2014 not merely someone who follows protocols, but a medical expert, a responsible citizen, and a person with ethical principles. After all, a doctor is more than just a clinician. That is why we are guided by an international framework of competences and are adapting it to the Ukrainian context, shaping doctors who are capable of thinking critically, interacting effectively, and taking responsibility,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i>emphasised Mariia Kukushkina, Dean and Organiser\u00a0 of the Medical School.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Medical School is being\u00a0established\u00a0as an environment where a culture of collaboration, responsibility and respect for patients is fostered. The programme is based on a combination of fundamental, clinical and humanities training, as well as a focus on international approaches and partnerships.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0School\u2019s\u00a0programme\u00a0comprises: a six-year integrated\u00a0Master\u2019s\u00a0programme, early clinical practice, a combination of fundamental, clinical and humanities education, and a focus on international approaches and partnerships.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over 100 experts from Ukraine and abroad have already joined the\u00a0School\u2019s\u00a0development.\u00a0<\/span>Our project is also involved in the creation of the new Medical School, providing expert support and contributing international experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first intake of students is scheduled for 2026.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the team\u2019s presentations, the Project\u2019s ambassadors shared their vision of the role and prospects of the new Medical School. Among them were the Healthy Decisions Foundation, represented by Tetiana Havrysh, co-founder and Director of Strategic Development, Viktoria\u00a0Tymoshevska, co-founder and Executive Director, and Inesa Guivaniuk, Co-Executive Director of GMKA, as well as Wim Groot, PhD, Professor of Health Economics and Professor of Evidence-Based Education at Maastricht University.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event concluded with a panel discussion \u201cMedical Education as an Investment in the Future\u201d exploring the link between education and practice, the role of culture in training doctors, and the potential for scaling up new educational models.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Medical School is open to partnerships and invites lecturers, experts, medical\u00a0institutions\u00a0and donors to collaborate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
